Hot Hand Luke, 2019

Hot Hand Luke is an interactive experience with fire. A metal ball with an internal wick is dipped in liquid fuel and set alight. Participants don a face shield, welding jacket, and heavy kiln gloves, and play Skeeball. The effect is both terrifying and beautiful. Hot Hand Luke was exhibited at Burning Man 2019, and GLOW 2019 at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History.

Apparently, no one ever told Matthew Gordon not to play with matches. Or maybe they did, and he didn’t listen. But who doesn’t like to light stuff on fire?”
